‘BB worked for em­pow­er­ing women’

IS­LAM­ABAD: The as­sas­si­na­tion of Be­nazir Bhutto was an un­for­get­table in­ci­dent in the his­tory of the coun­try and the po­lit­i­cal vac­uum cre­ated will take decades to fill the gap.

Chair­per­son Be­nazir In­come Sup­port Pro­gramme Farzana Raja was ex­press­ing her views ahead of third an­niver­sary of Mo­htarma Be­nazir Bhutto to ob­served on Mon­day. She said Be­nazir was well-known re­spected in­ter­na­tional po­lit­i­cal fig­ure for her mod­er­ate out­look and vi­sion­ary ideas. Farzana Raja said Be­nazir was a bea­con of hope for op­pressed women of our so­ci­ety, adding she not only con­demned vi­o­lence against women but took prac­ti­cally step for em­pow­er­ing them. "It was her firm be­lief that no so­ci­ety can make progress with­out giv­ing equal rights to women". She said that Be­nazir's life­long strug­gle against dic­ta­tor­ship and for re­vival of democ­racy gave con­fi­dence to women to prove their skills in all walks of life. -App
