Rs 32.92m ap­proved for agri re­search projects

LA­HORE: An amount of Rs 32.92 mil­lion has been ap­proved for fund­ing high pri­or­ity re­search projects of live­stock sec­tor.

The fund was ap­proved at the 24th meet­ing of Board of Di­rec­tors of Pun­jab Agri­cul­tural Re­search Board (PARB) here on Tues­day chaired by Ma­lik Ah­mad Ali Aulakh, Min­is­ter for Agri­cul­ture.

An amount of Rs 21.92 mil­lion was al­lo­cated for the project of devel­op­ment of egg ly­ing chicken lines for back­yard poul­try pro­duc­tion.

The sets of 12 and 6 pul­lets and cock­erels repec­tively will be dis­trib­uted to 30 fam­i­lies in­ter­ested in rais­ing chicken for one year in lieu of data col­lec­tion on per­for­mance and adapt- abil­ity in three dis­tricts of Pun­jab. A sum of Rs 11 mil­lion was also ap­proved for project devel­op­ment and com­par­i­son of in­nocu­ity and po­ten­ti­at­ing ef­fect of three oil ad­ju­vant in vac­cine of Pas­teurella mul­to­cida in buf­falo/ cat­tle.

While brief­ing ob­jec­tives of the project it was told that a vac­cine with long term im­mu­nity from a sin­gle shot with easy in­jectabil­ity will be de­vel­oped for Haem­or­rhagic Sep­ti­caemia (HS), which in an im­por­tant dis­ease of cat­tle and buf­falo caus­ing heavy eco­nomic losses. The chair un­der­lined that re­search in agri­cul­ture,live­stock and al­lied sci­ences is top pri­or­ity of Pun­jab Govern­ment for which ad­e­quate re­sources are be­ing pro­vided to con­duct re­search ac­cord­ing to in­ter­na­tional stan­dards for en­hanc­ing pro­duc­tiv­ity on sus­tain­able ba­sis.
