Rs 32.92m approved for agri research projects
LAHORE: An amount of Rs 32.92 million has been approved for funding high priority research projects of livestock sector.
The fund was approved at the 24th meeting of Board of Directors of Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) here on Tuesday chaired by Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Minister for Agriculture.
An amount of Rs 21.92 million was allocated for the project of development of egg lying chicken lines for backyard poultry production.
The sets of 12 and 6 pullets and cockerels repectively will be distributed to 30 families interested in raising chicken for one year in lieu of data collection on performance and adapt- ability in three districts of Punjab. A sum of Rs 11 million was also approved for project development and comparison of innocuity and potentiating effect of three oil adjuvant in vaccine of Pasteurella multocida in buffalo/ cattle.
While briefing objectives of the project it was told that a vaccine with long term immunity from a single shot with easy injectability will be developed for Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS), which in an important disease of cattle and buffalo causing heavy economic losses. The chair underlined that research in agriculture,livestock and allied sciences is top priority of Punjab Government for which adequate resources are being provided to conduct research according to international standards for enhancing productivity on sustainable basis.
