Nepal cbank re­sumes im­port of gold, sil­ver

KATH­MANDU: Nepal Ras­tra Bank (NRB) for­mally re­sumed the im­port of gold and sil­ver from Mon­day with the re­vised guide­line. Ac­cord­ing to the new guide­line, com­mer­cial banks are now per­mit­ted to im­port 15 kg of gold and 200 kg of sil­ver per day on ro­ta­tion ba­sis. The au­tho­rised deal­ers of gold and sil­ver are also per­mit­ted to im­port sil­ver with­out any re­stric­tion in its quan­tity un­der open gen­eral li­cense. Un­der the pre­vi­ous pro­vi­sion, the cen­tral bank had per­mit­ted the com­mer­cial banks to im­port only 10 kg of gold and 100 kg of sil­ver per day. As per the new guide­line on dis­tri­bu­tion of gold, of the to­tal im­ports of gold daily, 60 per­cent will be al­lo­cated to the Bag­mati zone while the re­main­ing 40 per­cent will be al­lo­cated to other ar­eas in the coun­try. -PB News
