4.5 mln stu­dents in Sindh to be given books

KARACHI: The Sindh Text­book Board is fully geared to sup­ply text books to 4.5 mil­lion chil­dren be­fore the start of aca­demic ses­sion 2011-2012 in Sindh. This was pointed out by t he Sec­re­tary of t he Sindh Text­book Board.

It was also men­tioned that the Sindh Text Book Board has pur­chased the re­quired quan­tity of print­ing paper well in time af­ter com­ple­tion of all co­dal for­mal­i­ties.

On the rec­om­men­da­tions of Euro­pean Union re­port: ' Fidu­ciary and Pro­cure­ment Risk As­sess­ment on Text­books' the Sindh Text­book Board has taken ini­tia­tives for print­ing of books as per SPPRA rules from this year.

These re­forms im­ple­mented by Govern­ment of Sindh, Ed­u­ca­tion and Lit­er­acy Depart­ment, have been ap­pre­ci­ated by Joint Re­view Mis­sion (JRM) of Euro­pean Union in their ap­praisal re­port.

In this re­gard the Joint Re­view Mis­sion has also praised the com­mit­ment and the role of lead­er­ship of Se­nior Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion, Ed­u­ca­tion Depart­ment, Re­form Sup­port Unit and Sindh Text Book Board.

Sindh Text Book Board got all t he stake­holder on board in­clud­ing Sindh Pub­lic Pro­cure­ment Reg­u­la­tory Author­ity ( SPPRA), Law Depart­ment, Re­form Sup­port Unit, Ed­u­ca­tion and Lit­er­acy Depart­ment and rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Euro­pean Union and Pub­lish­ers As­so­ci­a­tion be­fore start of print­ing process. As many as 62 firms out of a to­tal of 86 bid­ders were de­clared pre qual­i­fied. -App
