SC stops funds of 732 schemes in Balochis­tan

The Supreme Court Fri­day stopped the re­lease of Rs 24 bil­lion funds of 732 un­ap­proved de­vel­op­men­tal schemes in Balochis­tan.

The case was heard by a two-mem­ber bench headed by Chief Jus­tice Iftikhar Chaudhry and Jus­tice Jawad S Khawaja.

The pe­ti­tion with re­spect to hold­ing fur­ther is­suance of funds and to halt the cur­rent 732 un­reg­is­tered schemes in Balochis­tan was sub­mit­ted by Ab­dur Rahim Ziarat.

The pe­ti­tioner in his ap­pli­ca­tion said that funds were be­ing re­leased un­der the PSDP with­out the ap­proval of the Balochis­tan Assem­bly and that the Court should take ac­tion against it.

Un­der these un­ap­proved schemes till now Rs 30 mil­lion each Mem­ber Pro­vin­cial Assem­bly of Balochis­tan was re­leased.

How­ever, it is clearly men­tioned in the of­fi­cial doc­u­ments that the afore­men­tioned schemes are un­ap­proved, the pe­ti­tioner added. The Court af­ter is­su­ing the stay or­der against fur­ther re­lease of funds formed a com­mit­tee un­der the head­ship of Chief Sec­re­tary Balochis­tan.
