Foolproof security directed during Muharram
Commissioner Rawalpindi Imdad Ullah Bosal has directed the make foolproof security arrangements for peaceful passage of Muharram-ul-Harram.
He said that zero tolerance would be shown against unregistered vehicles and motorcycles during Muharram to avoid any untoward incident. He said the vehicles without number plates found moving on roads would be impounded in respective police stations.
Elected representatives of Rawalpindi city should be included in committees being constituted for supervision of Muharram processions which will help law enforcement agencies for keeping peaceful atmosphere.
He issued these directions in a meeting held here in his office to review the arrangements of Muharram-ulHarram. The meeting was also attended by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt. Muhammad Zubair, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar, MNAs Malik Shakeel Awan, Malik Ibrar Ahmad, MPAs Sheharyar Riaz, Raja Muhammad Hanif, Ch. Muhammad Ayaz and Muslim League leader Ch. Umar Farooq. City Police Officer ( CPO) Rawalpindi Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Special Branch Mohsin Naqvi, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Shah and SSP CID Rana Shahid Pervaiz were also present on this occasion.
RPO and CPO gave the briefing and said that police would be deployed for security arrangements and the contingent of Rangers would also be called to assist police.
Commissioner said that Interior Ministry would be contacted on Punjab Government level to depute Rangers where demanded. He said that the IESCO department would be written a letter to stop load-shedding during Muharram Majalis whereas Tehsil Municipal Authorities (TMAs) would be directed to arrange stand by generators for the Majalis in their respective areas in case of any power outage. He directed the police department that video recording of processions and
majalis must be done to trace out the real culprits in case of any mishap and terrorist activity. A complete search operation should be carried out for hotels and 'Saraais' specially situated in Pirwadhai area alongwith other populated areas of the city and a campaign be carried out against illegal weapons to prevent any unpleasant incident.
The duty roaster of the staff to be deputed for Moharram possessions and majalis, comprehensive security plan and traffic plan in this regard be chalked out and submitted to Commissioner Office. Car Parking for the Majalis should be set up at reasonable distance from the areas of Mujalis. Elected Representatives should also present their proposals for the steps to be needed for peaceful passage of Muharram.
Commissioner Rawalpindi division, RPO, CPO informed that their suggestions would be welcomed while making security arrangements of Muharram. CPO also briefed the meeting about the crime situation in the district and performance of Police Department.
