PAK-UNESCO to co-host event for girls ed­u­ca­tion

Fed­eral Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing, Sheikh Waqas Akram on Tues­day said Gov­ern­ment of Pak­istan and United Nations Ed­u­ca­tional, Sci­en­tific and Cul­tural Or­ga­ni­za­tion (UNESCO) will co-host a mega event for pro­mot­ing girl ed­u­ca­tion glob­ally on De­cem­ber 10 at Paris.

Ad­dress­ing a press con­fer­ence here at Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, he said it will be first global ini­tia­tive of UNESCO led by Pak­istan which will be a trib­ute to Malala Yousafzai who ded­i­cated her life for ed­u­ca­tion. The min­is­ter said lead­ing per­son­al­i­ties of world are expected to par­tic­i­pate in the event in­clud- ing Pres­i­dents, Prime Min­is­ters, mem­bers of royal fam­i­lies, cel­e­brates and donor agen­cies, de­voted on the name of 'Stand­ing for Girls Ed­u­ca­tion'.

"Pres­i­dent of Pak­istan would hold an­nounce a huge amount as seed money for the global ini­tia­tive at the event", the min­is­ter said, adding that the fund raised at the moot will be used for pro­mot­ing girls ed­u­ca­tion world over.

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion Coun­try Chief UNESCO Dr. Na­gatta said De­cem­ber 10 has been de­cided in con­nec­tion with the In­ter­na­tional Hu­man Rights Day. She said the fund raised through this ini­tia­tive will be spent at grass root level and hard hit ar­eas where girls ed­u­ca­tion needs at­ten­tion.
