PAK-UNESCO to co-host event for girls education
Federal Minister for Education and Training, Sheikh Waqas Akram on Tuesday said Government of Pakistan and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will co-host a mega event for promoting girl education globally on December 10 at Paris.
Addressing a press conference here at Ministry of Education, he said it will be first global initiative of UNESCO led by Pakistan which will be a tribute to Malala Yousafzai who dedicated her life for education. The minister said leading personalities of world are expected to participate in the event includ- ing Presidents, Prime Ministers, members of royal families, celebrates and donor agencies, devoted on the name of 'Standing for Girls Education'.
"President of Pakistan would hold announce a huge amount as seed money for the global initiative at the event", the minister said, adding that the fund raised at the moot will be used for promoting girls education world over.
Speaking on the occasion Country Chief UNESCO Dr. Nagatta said December 10 has been decided in connection with the International Human Rights Day. She said the fund raised through this initiative will be spent at grass root level and hard hit areas where girls education needs attention.
