495 cases of murder re­ported in first eight months: HRCP

Hu­man Rights Com­mis­sion of Pak­istan (HRCP) said here on Sun­day that 495 cases of murder have been re­ported from dif­fer­ent parts of the coun­try dur­ing the first eight months of the year (Jan­uary to Au­gust) in­clud­ing 573 women and 88 chil­dren.An of­fi­cial of HRCP told APP that ac­cord­ing to data com­plied from the news­pa­per clip­pings, 210 cases of Karo Kari and 367 cases of hon­our killing were re­ported dur­ing this time pe­riod.

He in­formed that po­lice have reg­is­tered 196 cases of murder dur­ing the time span and reg­is­tered First In­for­ma­tion Re­ports (FIR) of 146 hon­our killing cases while 133 cases of Karo Kari were also filed in re­spec­tive po­lice sta­tions.

Among Hon­our Killing ac­cused, the HRCP of­fi­cial said, po­lice have ar­rested 74 cul­prits while 17 sur­ren­dered be­fore po­lice. Like­wise, he said 40 Karo Kari ac­cused were also ar­rested and 9 sur­ren­dered af­ter com­mit­ting the crime. He said rea­son be­hind 223 hon­our killing cases was re­ported il­licit re­la­tions while 110 cases are re­ported on the charges of mar­riage on choice. While 203 cases of Karo Kari are also re­ported due to the rea­son of il­licit re­la­tions.

He in­formed that med­i­cal aid has been pro­vided to 50 murder cases in­clud­ing 17 cases of hon­our killing dur­ing the said pe­riod of time.
