LHC disposes of petition against gas slab rates
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Wednesday disposed of petition challenging the increase in POL prices and slab rates of Sui Gas.
The chief justice disposing of petition held that the petitioner should first avail alternative remedy under Section 12(2) of Ogra Ordinance 2002 and rule 16 of natural gas tariff rules 2002, before invoking jurisdiction of the court.
The petition was filed by Muhammad Hanif Goraya, Consumer Rights Forum Pakistan general secretary. The petitioner, in his petition, mentioned that the government repeatedly increasing POL and gas prices which cause suffering to common man.
He said it was a pity that the government tended to up the prices when POL rates were on the decline at international market. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to reverse the prices. He also requested the court to set aside a notification of increasing slab rates of gas.
