CCI is expected to approve LPG policy next week: Dr Asim
Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain said the government is cognizant of the energy crisis and taking concrete steps to resolve it adding that LPG policy is expected to be approved by next week.
Speaking during question hour in the National Assembly on Thursday‚ Dr. Asim Hussain told the House the government is cognizant of the energy crisis and taking concrete steps to resolve it. He said the LPG policy is currently lying with the Council of Common Interests which is expected to be approved by next week. He said that gas consumption by CNG stations has increased after reduction in the prices of the commodity‚ which could aggravate the energy crisis. He said there is a need to evolve a comprehensive strategy to redefine the role of OGRA. He said that a committee of stakeholders should be constituted to address the issue of CNG.
He said that the CNG should only be used in the public transport so that its benefit could reach to the common man. Dr. Asim Hussain said that comprehensive steps has been taken to manage gas load-shedding for the upcoming winter season. As short- term measure gap between the demand and supply is bridged through curtailment of gas supplies to fertilizer‚ power‚ and general industry and CNG sectors.
He said awareness campaign is being launched through Print and Electronic Media for creating awareness amongst general public and domestic consumers on conservation of natural gas.
He said SSGC would receive 10 MMCFD gas from Nur Bagla field after the laying of pipeline which is expected to be completed soon. Responding to a supplementary question‚ the Advisor said the country is currently producing sixty-four thousand barrel of oil which is expected to increase by one hundred thousand barrel next year.
