CCI is expected to ap­prove LPG pol­icy next week: Dr Asim

Ad­vi­sor on Pe­tro­leum and Nat­u­ral Re­sources Dr. Asim Hus­sain said the gov­ern­ment is cog­nizant of the en­ergy cri­sis and tak­ing con­crete steps to re­solve it adding that LPG pol­icy is expected to be ap­proved by next week.

Speak­ing dur­ing ques­tion hour in the Na­tional Assem­bly on Thurs­day‚ Dr. Asim Hus­sain told the House the gov­ern­ment is cog­nizant of the en­ergy cri­sis and tak­ing con­crete steps to re­solve it. He said the LPG pol­icy is cur­rently ly­ing with the Coun­cil of Com­mon In­ter­ests which is expected to be ap­proved by next week. He said that gas con­sump­tion by CNG sta­tions has in­creased af­ter re­duc­tion in the prices of the com­mod­ity‚ which could ag­gra­vate the en­ergy cri­sis. He said there is a need to evolve a com­pre­hen­sive strat­egy to re­de­fine the role of OGRA. He said that a com­mit­tee of stake­hold­ers should be con­sti­tuted to ad­dress the is­sue of CNG.

He said that the CNG should only be used in the pub­lic trans­port so that its ben­e­fit could reach to the com­mon man. Dr. Asim Hus­sain said that com­pre­hen­sive steps has been taken to man­age gas load-shed­ding for the up­com­ing win­ter sea­son. As short- term mea­sure gap be­tween the de­mand and sup­ply is bridged through cur­tail­ment of gas sup­plies to fer­til­izer‚ power‚ and gen­eral in­dus­try and CNG sec­tors.

He said aware­ness cam­paign is be­ing launched through Print and Elec­tronic Me­dia for cre­at­ing aware­ness amongst gen­eral pub­lic and do­mes­tic con­sumers on con­ser­va­tion of nat­u­ral gas.

He said SSGC would re­ceive 10 MMCFD gas from Nur Bagla field af­ter the lay­ing of pipe­line which is expected to be com­pleted soon. Re­spond­ing to a sup­ple­men­tary ques­tion‚ the Ad­vi­sor said the coun­try is cur­rently pro­duc­ing sixty-four thou­sand bar­rel of oil which is expected to in­crease by one hun­dred thou­sand bar­rel next year.
