Pak­istan wants ties with US based on mu­tual trust, says Kaira

Min­is­ter for In­for­ma­tion and Broad­cast­ing Qa­mar Za­man Kaira on Wed­nes­day said that Pak­istan wanted cor­dial re­la­tions with the United States based on mu­tual trust and re­spect.

He was talk­ing to US Am­bas­sador Richard G Ol­son, who called on him here and dis­cussed mat­ters of mu­tual in­ter­ests, par­tic­u­larly co­op­er­a­tion in the field of me­dia.

The min­is­ter said that ter­ror­ism was a global threat that needed to be tack­led through global ef­forts.

He stressed for wag­ing a war against breed­ing grounds of ex­trem­ist mind-set. "Pak­istan is a func­tional democ­racy where me­dia is free and civil so­ci­ety is vi­brant" he said. Kaira said that it was for the first time a demo­cratic gov­ern­ment was suc­cess­fully com­plet­ing its con­sti­tu­tional ten­ure.
