Punjab govt to distribute green tractors among farmers: CM
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that self-sufficiency can be achieved in the agriculture sector at the national level by promoting agriculture economy on concrete and sustainable foundations.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting regarding progress in provision of tractors under Green Tractor Scheme. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Agriculture, Finance, Industry and authorities concerned attended the meeting.
He said Punjab government has initiated many development programmes aimed at welfare and uplift of farming community, in addition to increasing agriculture productivity to realize the dream of self-autarky in agriculture sector. He said positive and encouraging results have been produced as a result of farmer-friendly steps taken by the Punjab government, which has resulted in boosting per acre productivity. He said Punjab government has initiated the process of provision of subsidized tractors, under the Green Tractor Scheme, to farmers, throughout the province, whereas these tractors are being given to the farming community, after a transparent balloting process.
He said that, during the current year, as many as 10048 tractors are being distributed among the farmers while the Punjab government is extending a subsidy of Rs.2 lakh on every tractor. He said as many as ten thousand tractors are being distributed throughout the province, after a transparent balloting and merit, while 48 tractors would be distributed at Dera Ghazi Khan and tribal areas of Rajanpur. He said tractors distribution process has been initiated purely on the basis of merit, and after conducting transparent balloting.
