Pun­jab govt to dis­trib­ute green trac­tors among farm­ers: CM

Chief Min­is­ter Shah­baz Sharif has said that self-suf­fi­ciency can be achieved in the agri­cul­ture sec­tor at the na­tional level by pro­mot­ing agri­cul­ture econ­omy on con­crete and sus­tain­able foun­da­tions.

He ex­pressed th­ese views while pre­sid­ing over a high level meet­ing re­gard­ing progress in pro­vi­sion of trac­tors un­der Green Trac­tor Scheme. Se­na­tor Per­vaiz Rashid, Spe­cial As­sis­tant Zaeem Hus­sain Qadri, Chair­man Plan­ning & Devel­op­ment, Sec­re­taries of Agri­cul­ture, Fi­nance, In­dus­try and au­thor­i­ties con­cerned at­tended the meet­ing.

He said Pun­jab government has ini­ti­ated many devel­op­ment pro­grammes aimed at wel­fare and up­lift of farm­ing com­mu­nity, in ad­di­tion to in­creas­ing agri­cul­ture pro­duc­tiv­ity to re­al­ize the dream of self-au­tarky in agri­cul­ture sec­tor. He said pos­i­tive and en­cour­ag­ing re­sults have been pro­duced as a re­sult of farmer-friendly steps taken by the Pun­jab government, which has re­sulted in boost­ing per acre pro­duc­tiv­ity. He said Pun­jab government has ini­ti­ated the process of pro­vi­sion of sub­si­dized trac­tors, un­der the Green Trac­tor Scheme, to farm­ers, through­out the province, whereas th­ese trac­tors are be­ing given to the farm­ing com­mu­nity, af­ter a trans­par­ent bal­lot­ing process.

He said that, dur­ing the cur­rent year, as many as 10048 trac­tors are be­ing dis­trib­uted among the farm­ers while the Pun­jab government is ex­tend­ing a sub­sidy of Rs.2 lakh on ev­ery trac­tor. He said as many as ten thou­sand trac­tors are be­ing dis­trib­uted through­out the province, af­ter a trans­par­ent bal­lot­ing and merit, while 48 trac­tors would be dis­trib­uted at Dera Ghazi Khan and tribal ar­eas of Ra­jan­pur. He said trac­tors distri­bu­tion process has been ini­ti­ated purely on the ba­sis of merit, and af­ter con­duct­ing trans­par­ent bal­lot­ing.
