Power short­age to con­tinue till 2020: NEPRA

Ac­cord­ing to a report is­sued by NEPRA, the elec­tric­ity short­age in the coun­try will con­tinue till 2020.

The report stated that un­der the present sce­nario there was no so­lu­tion to the power cri­sis in the coun­try.

Thou­sands of work­ers have be­come un­em­ployed due to the preva­lent short­fall, the report said.

At present 14,000 MW are be­ing pro­duced in Pak­istan and de­mand stands at 23,000 MW. The report in­di­cated that forty per­cent of elec­tric­ity was lost in line loses and due to theft.

NEPRA has also in­creased the per unit price of elec­tric­ity by Rs0.04, how­ever this will not be ap­pli­ca­ble on users in Karachi.
