ECP seeks ap­pli­ca­tions for elec­toral sym­bols from po­lit­i­cal par­ties

Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Pak­istan has sought ap­pli­ca­tions from po­lit­i­cal par­ties for the al­lot­ment of elec­toral sym­bols to be used in the forth­com­ing gen­eral elec­tions, says a press re­lease.

The po­lit­i­cal par­ties which have com­plied with the pro­vi­sions of the Po­lit­i­cal Par­ties Or­der, 2002 and the Rules framed there un­der are in­vited to make ap­pli­ca­tions for al­lo­ca­tion of one of the sym­bols pre­scribed un­der Rule 9 of the Rep­re­sen­ta­tion of the Peo­ple (Con­duct of Elec­tions) Rules, 1977.

The po­lit­i­cal par­ties have been ad­vised to file re­spec­tive ap­pli­ca­tions ac­cord­ing to re­quire­ments of Ar­ti­cle 5 of the Al­lo­ca­tion of Sym­bols Or­der, 2002. The ap­pli­ca­tions should con­tain the fol­low­ing in­for­ma­tion, in­clud­ing the list of sym­bols ap­plied for in or­der of pref­er­ence, sym­bol if any al­lo­cated to the po­lit­i­cal party dur­ing the pre­vi­ous gen­eral elec­tions, ad­dress of the head of­fice, name of its Pres­i­dent, Sec­re­tary Gen­eral, of­fice-bear­ers.

In ad­di­tion, the ap­pli­ca­tion should also men­tion the nu­mer­i­cal strength of the party’s mem­bers. More­over, a copy of the con­sti­tu­tion of the po­lit­i­cal party should also be at­tached with the ap­pli­ca­tion.

It should also note whether the po­lit­i­cal party has con­ducted the in­tra-party elec­tions as re­quired un­der Ar­ti­cle 12 of the Po­lit­i­cal Par­ties Or­der, 2002 and whether the po­lit­i­cal party has submitted its due Con­sol­i­dated State­ments of Ac­counts au­dited by Char­tered Ac­count as re­quired un­der Ar­ti­cle 13 of the Po­lit­i­cal Par­ties Or­der, 2002. It mer­its men­tion­ing here that ECP will not en­ter­tain the in­com­plete ap­pli­ca­tions or re­quests through fax. The last date for submission of ap­pli­ca­tions is March 15, 2013.
