NHA col­lects Rs 4470.872m fine from mo­torists

The Na­tional High­way Author­ity (NHA) col­lected Rs.4470.872 mil­lion fine from mo­torists for vi­o­la­tion of traf­fic rules on Mo­tor­ways and Na­tional High­ways dur­ing past three fis­cal years. An of­fi­cial in Min­istry of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions told me­dia per­sons Fri­day that a to­tal of Rs 1317.905 mil­lion were col­lected as fine in 2009-10,Rs 1239.573 mil­lion were col­lected in 2010-11 and Rs 1913.395 mil­lion in 2011-12. Out of the said fine amount,Rs 190.640 were col­lected from mo­torists trav­el­ing on mo­tor­way in 2009-10,Rs 188.353 mil­lion were col­lected in 201011 and Rs 256.862 mil­lion were col­lected in 2011-12. From na­tional high­ways Rs 1127.265 mil­lion were col­lected as fine in 2009-10,Rs 1051.220 mil­lion were col­lected in 2010-11 and Rs 1656.532 mil­lion in 2011-12. He said that the fine amount was col­lected by NHA through their con­trac­tors and 50 per cent of the col­lected amount had been re­tained by the author­ity for road main­te­nance fund and re­main­ing 50 pc was trans­ferred to Na­tional high­way and Mo­tor­way Po­lice.
