NHA collects Rs 4470.872m fine from motorists
The National Highway Authority (NHA) collected Rs.4470.872 million fine from motorists for violation of traffic rules on Motorways and National Highways during past three fiscal years. An official in Ministry of Communications told media persons Friday that a total of Rs 1317.905 million were collected as fine in 2009-10,Rs 1239.573 million were collected in 2010-11 and Rs 1913.395 million in 2011-12. Out of the said fine amount,Rs 190.640 were collected from motorists traveling on motorway in 2009-10,Rs 188.353 million were collected in 201011 and Rs 256.862 million were collected in 2011-12. From national highways Rs 1127.265 million were collected as fine in 2009-10,Rs 1051.220 million were collected in 2010-11 and Rs 1656.532 million in 2011-12. He said that the fine amount was collected by NHA through their contractors and 50 per cent of the collected amount had been retained by the authority for road maintenance fund and remaining 50 pc was transferred to National highway and Motorway Police.
