State Bank, PBA launch Clean Chun­dri­gar Road drive

State Bank of Pak­istan and Pak­istan Banks' As­so­ci­a­tion have joined hands in a drive to clean up I. I. Chun­dri­gar Road of wall chalk­ing, garbage and other waste. On the ini­tia­tive of Act­ing Gover­nor SBP Ashraf Mah­mood Wathra, Sun­day March 30 was ob­served as " Clean Chun­dri­gar Road - 2014" day. A rib­bon cut­ting cer­e­mony was held at State Bank of Pak­istan. Gover­nor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebaad Khan was the chief guest. It marked the be­gin­ning of a year-long cam­paign to clean I. I. Chun­dri­gar Road.

The 2.5 km road is di­vided into eight sec­tions al­lo­cated to eight dif­fer­ent banks: Bank Al­falah limited, Na­tional Bank of Pak­istan, United Bank Limited, Bank Al Habib, Habib Bank Limited, MCB Bank, Habib Met­ro­pol­i­tan Bank Limited and JS Bank Limited will par­tic­i­pate in the drive.

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion Gover­nor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan said that ev­ery cit­i­zen of Pak­istan needs a clean area to work and live in.

He urged all Karachi­ites to em­brace the clean­li­ness and wall chalk­ing day and take some pos­i­tive steps to­wards mak­ing Karachi the city of our dreams. Act­ing Gover­nor SBP Mr. Ashraf Mah­mood Wathra said that no so­ci­ety could af­ford to ig­nore the sig­nif­i­cance of clean­li­ness and hy­giene. He re­minded the au­di­ence that ear­lier in a sim­i­lar project in 2007, funds were sup­plied for a sim­i­lar project for con­struc­tion and re­fur­bish­ing I. I. Chun­dri­gar Road. SBP and other stake­hold­ers had con­trib­uted the huge amount of Rs 230 mil­lion for the project. But af­ter the com­ple­tion of the project, Mu­nic­i­pal Ad­min­is­tra­tion did not look af­ter its clean­li­ness and main­te­nance.
