Lady health work­ers protest for salaries, clash with po­lice

KARACHI: Af­ter dis­abled per­sons, lady health work­ers were also man­han­dled by Karachi po­lice on Tues­day for protest­ing for their rights. Lady health work­ers were protest­ing for their salaries when the po­lice started beat­ing them up. One of the work­ers went un­con­scious as the po­lice pushed and abused them. She was shifted to the hos­pi­tal. Ac­cord­ing to de­tails, lady health work­ers led a protest march from Karachi Press Club to Sindh High Court. Af­ter­wards, when they tried to march to­wards Sindh Assem­bly, po­lice re­sorted to its in­fa­mous tac­tics. Male po­lice of­fi­cers kept en­gag­ing the lady health work­ers. Sit­u­a­tion wors­ened when po­lice tried to force the lady health work­ers into a car. Dur­ing the ver­bal clash with the po­lice, one worker went un­con­scious and was taken to the hos­pi­tal by her fel­low health work­ers. When Mut­tahida Qaumi Move­ment ( MQM) raised the is­sue in Sindh Assem­bly, pro­vin­cial min­is­ter Nisar Khuhro went to talk to the protesters. Pro­vin­cial min­is­ters told the protesters that the amount ar­rived late from fed­eral gov­ern­ment due to which the salaries were de­layed. The min­is­ters told the protest­ing lady health work­ers that Chief Min­is­ter has ap­proved spe­cial grant and the salaries will now be paid on 1st of ev­ery month. The protest was called off af­ter min­is­ters' as­sur­ances.
