LHC grants in­terim bail to Ka­sur scan­dal ac­cused

A La­hore High Court di­vi­sion bench on Tues­day granted pre- ar­rest in­terim bail to Tanzeel ur Rehman, in­volved in Ka­sur scan­dal, till Au­gust 31.

The bench di­rected the ac­cused to sub­mit two surety bonds of Rs 200,000 to avail the bail. The bench com­pris­ing Jus­tice Muham­mad An­waar ul Haq and Jus­tice Erum Sa­jad Gull heard the mat­ter. Dur­ing the hear­ing, the pe­ti­tioner's coun­sel ar­gu­ing be­fore the court sub­mit­ted that the po­lice had nom­i­nated his client in four dif­fer­ent cases reg­is­tered in con­nec­tion with the Ka­sur scan­dal. He said that cases were reg­is­tered 15-months af­ter the in­ci­dent on mere state­ments, whereas, no ev­i­dence was avail­able against the ac­cused. He said that his client wanted to join in­ves­ti­ga­tions to prove his in­no­cence. He pleaded the court to grant ben­e­fit of the bail to ac­cused. The bench af­ter hear­ing ar­gu­ments granted pre-ar­rest bail to the ac­cused till Au­gust 31 and sought record of the case from po­lice.

Mean­while, Jus­tice Muham­mad An­waar ul Haq also granted pro­tec­tive bail to ac­cused Tanzeel ur Rehman and di­rected him to ap­proach the trial court by Au­gust 24. The court di­rected the ac­cused to sub­mit two surety bonds of Rs 100,000 for the pur­pose. The court passed the or­ders while dis­pos­ing an ap­pli­ca­tion filed by the ac­cused for the pur­pose. The pe­ti­tioner pleaded the court that he was in­no­cent and wanted to ap­pear in con­cerned court but fear ar­rest. He pleaded the court to grant pro­tec­tive bail.
