39 deaths in Thar in Jan­uary: Jam Me­htab

KARACHI: Pro­vin­cial Min­is­ter for Health Jam Me­htab Hus­sain Da­har has said that Sindh Govern­ment is com­mit­ted to pro­vide bet­ter health fa­cil­i­ties in Thar. It is un­for­tu­nate enough that me­dia is ex­ag­ger­at­ing num­ber of deaths in Thar. In cur­rent month so far 39 chil­dren un­der 5 years have died while 390 pa­tients hav­ing been treated in six govern­ment hospi­tals of Tharparkar, have been dis­charged. This he said while talk­ing to me­dia here in Sindh As­sem­bly. He said that dur­ing cur­rent month 3 chil­dren died due to pre term birth, 7 chil­dren died due to birth as­phyxia , 3 died due to pneu­mo­nia, 12 died due to neo na­tal sep­sis while other 10 died due to var­i­ous causes. Health Min­is­ter added, ' On 25 Jan­uary, 114 chil­dren were ad­mit­ted in Civil Hos­pi­tal Mithi, out of which 2 died while 2 se­ri­ously ill chil­dren were re­ferred to Hyderabad. Mean­while 11 chil­dren ad­mit­ted in Diplo, 47 in Na­garparkar and 14 were ad­mit­ted in Chachro , out of which 4 se­ri­ously ill chil­dren re­ferred to Civil Hos­pi­tal Hyderabad. Mr. Da­har said that right now in Mithi, Diplo, Na­garparkar and Chachro, 109 chil­dren were un­der treat­ment and all pos­si­ble med­i­cal fa­cil­i­ties were be­ing pro­vided to them. While re­ply­ing to a ques­tion he said that in Jan­uary al­most 390 pa­tients were treated. Among them 210 were male, 87 were fe­male and 93 chil­dren were un­der 5 years. The Health Min­is­ter said that Health Depart­ment was uti­liz­ing its all re­sources to pro­vide health fa­cil­i­ties to the pa­tients. Ad­e­quate funds had been pro­vided to DHO con­cerned for fuel and main­te­nance of am­bu­lances to trans­port pa­tients from Tharparkar to Hyderabad.
