Volk­swa­gen re­call­ing 2,120 SUVs over fire haz­ard

BEI­JING: Volk­swa­gen will re­call 2,120 Touareg SUVs in China over fire risks, said the coun­try's top qual­ity watch­dog on Fri­day. The af­fected ve­hi­cles were man­u­fac­tured be­tween Sept 6, 2010 and Aug 13, 2014, said the Gen­eral Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Qual­ity Su­per­vi­sion, In­spec­tion and Quar­an­tine. The ad­min­is­tra­tion said bat­ter­ies in the car could short-cir­cuit if wa­ter gets in the trunk, lead­ing to fire haz­ards. Volk­swa­gen will in­stall drain valves for the af­fected ve­hi­cles free of charge, with the re­call start­ing from Feb 18.
