Crimes in Pun­jab record 27pc de­crease

The im­ple­men­ta­tion on Na­tional Ac­tion Plan (NAP) in Pun­jab has helped de­crease in num­ber of heinous crimes (mur­der) which reached 3,844 in 2015 as com­pared to 5,282 in 2014. Around 27 per cent de­crease has been recorded in mur­der cases, data is­sued by Min­istry of In­te­rior re­gard­ing im­ple­men­ta­tion of NAP re­vealed. Sim­i­larly, crime against per­son was also re­duced by 11% to 43,437, which were 48,759 in 2014.

The Na­tional Ac­tion Plan (NAP) im­ple­mented by Pun­jab po­lice has pro­duced pos­i­tive re­sults, as no­tice­able de­crease in ter­ror­ism cases was also ob­served in 2015.

Ac­cord­ing to Pun­jab po­lice, dur­ing last 10 months un­der Na­tional Ac­tion Plan, 33,772 comb­ing op­er­a­tions were con­ducted in which 994,118 peo­ple were ques­tioned, 5,549 cases were reg­is­tered out of which 980 cases were reg­is­tered un­der For­eign Act vi­o­la­tion.

Dur­ing the pe­riod, 6,162 gen­eral hold ups were held, in which 24,436 sus­pect crim­i­nals were ar­rested. Sim­i­larly, 122,800 ve­hi­cles with­out num­ber plates, unau­tho­rized and tinted glasses were im­pounded dur­ing the hold ups. Tak­ing ac­tion against the dis­play of arms, 2,851 cases were reg­is­tered while 189 weapons were con­fis­cated dur­ing the op­er­a­tion.

The Counter Ter­ror­ism Depart­ment (CTD) ar­rested 40 hardcore ac­tivists and de­tained 69 dur­ing the pe­riod.
