Over­all tele­com tele-den­sity reaches 66.4pc

IS­LAM­ABAD: Over­all tele­com tele-den­sity in the coun­try has reached 66.4 per cent by De­cem­ber last year, show­ing a grad­ual in­crease as it was 66.1 per cent three months back. Mo­bile phone sub­scrip­tion has mainly con­trib­uted in over­all tele-den­sity which was 65.3 per cent while fixed­line tele-den­sity was mere 1.7 per cent till the pe­riod men­tioned. The num­ber of fixed­line sub­scribers in the coun­try is 3.14 mil­lion. As per stats made avail­able by Pak­istan Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion Au­thor­ity (PTA), the num­ber of mo­bile sub­scribers in Pak­istan reached 125.899 mil­lion at the end of De­cem­ber 2015, af­ter five mo­bile phone com­pa­nies added a com­bined user base of 1.65 mil­lion cus­tomers dur­ing the re­ported month. The data said Mo­bilink leads the charts with 36.21 mil­lion cus­tomers while Te­lenor is clos­ing in the gap with 34.93 mil­lion sub­scribers. How­ever, af­ter planned merger of Mo­bilink and Warid, Mo­bilink will be able to widen the lead with more than 46 mil­lion post-merger cus­tomers. Zong had 24.13 mil­lion cus­tomers at the end of De­cem­ber 2015 while Ufone stood with 19.93 mil­lion cus­tomers till the time. Warid had a to­tal of 10.69 mil­lion cus­tomers.
