Jankovic, Shvedova send seeds packing
Last week's two finalists from St Petersburg crumbled in their first step at the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open late on Tuesday. Former world number one and Dubai resident Jelena Jankovic fought back from a set and break down to send fifth seed Belinda Bencic packing 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, while qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova fought hard for a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over last Sunday's champion in St Petersburg and seventh seed Vinci on the second day of the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open here late on Tuesday. Bencic, who lost to Vinci in straight sets in the final of the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy last Sunday, had achieved a rare distinction last week when she became the first teenager in seven years to reach the top-10 of the WTA rankings. A run to the final in Russia had also ensured that the 18-year-old Swiss girl became the first woman under-20 to enter the top-10 in the women's rankings since Caroline Wozniacki did way back in 2009.
