Fi­nance Min­is­ter re­views per­for­mance of PBS

Fi­nance Min­is­ter, Sen­a­tor Mo­ham­mad Ishaq Dar here chaired a meet­ing to re­view per­for­mance of Pak­istan Bureau of Sta­tis­tics (PBS) in the last six months.

Chief Statis­ti­cian, Asif Ba­jwa ap­prised the meet­ing about the cur­rent trend of in­fla­tion in­di­ca­tors. The Min­is­ter was in­formed that Sen­si­tive Price In­dex (SPI) was con­tin­u­ously de­clin­ing due to smooth sup­ply of dif­fer­ent com­modi­ties in the mar­ket and vig­i­lant mon­i­tor­ing of prices both at fed­eral and pro­vin­cial lev­els. Prices of ma­jor items are sta­ble or ex­hibit a de­clin­ing trend.

The Min­is­ter di­rected PBS to en­sure that all data re­lated to in­fla­tion and other eco­nomic in­di­ca­tors was timely up­dated and wider cov­er­age ac­corded to its dis­sem­i­na­tion for in­for­ma­tion of the gen­eral pub­lic.

The Min­is­ter fur­ther asked that pe­ri­odic sur­veys for en­sur­ing data ac­cu­racy must be car­ried out reg­u­larly us­ing lat­est avail­able tech­nol­ogy. Se­nior of­fi­cials of the Min­istry of Fi­nance and PBS at­tended the meet­ing.
