29 energy projects proposed for funding, inclusion in CPEC
National Assembly Parliamentary Committee on ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) met here on Monday under the Chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed. Minister for Energy, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Muhammad Atif represented the provincial government and presented the KPK's perspective regarding energy projects to be included in the CPEC. Atif proposed 29 energy projects for their funding and inclusion in CPEC to speed up the progress. The members of the Parliamentary Committee welcomed the presence of the KPK's Minister for Energy.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the Government ensured representation of all provinces in all the meetings of CPEC with China, including the upcoming meeting of Joint working Group on Energy in April and JCC in May.
The committee was also briefed by the Chairman, National Highway Authority on the issue of Dera Ismail Khan Motorway regarding its western route, its progress and timeline of completion.
The committee welcomed the proposals from the KPK Government and said the Federal Government's relevant ministries should take these forward after due consultation. On the issue of registration of the inden- ture of lease with the Government of Sindh, Secretary Water and Power, Mohammad Younus Dagha reported to the committee that progress had been made which required the approval from all stakeholders and the matter would be resolved within two weeks.
He also informed that the Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif would meet the Sindh Chief Minister on this issue next week, to finalize resolution of the issue. Managing Director PPIB, on the progress report by the committee comprising Senator Lt Gen (Retd) Salahuddin Tirmizi and Senator Shibli Faraz, on the issue of Suki- Kinari Hydel Power Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, informed that a revised notice for land acquisition was issued on March 16 to impose Section-4. Chief Minister, Government of Gilgit Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman also attended the meeting as a special invitee and updated the committee on the project of Diamer Bhasha Dam. He informed that the progress on the project was satisfactory.
The new government in Gilgit Baltistan saved Rs 7.5 billion in that project. The Chief Minister, Gilgit Baltistan also invited the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC to visit Gilgit to know the progress of the CPEC projects in Gilgit Baltistan.The meeting was attended by Chairman, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Akram Khan Durrani, Minister for Housing and Works, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Parliamentary Secretary for Finance,Revenue, Economic Affairs Statistics and Privatization, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, MNA, Asad Umar, MNA, Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, MNA, Senator Sardar Fateh Muhammad Muhammad Hassani, Senator, Lt Gen (Retd) Salahuddin Tirmizi, Senator, Talha Mehmood, Senator, Shibli Faraz, Senator, Baz Muhammad Khan along with the Chief Minister, Government of Gilgit Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman and Minister for Energy, KPK, M Atif as special invitee.
