29 en­ergy projects pro­posed for fund­ing, in­clu­sion in CPEC

Na­tional As­sem­bly Par­lia­men­tary Com­mit­tee on Chi­naPak­istan Eco­nomic Cor­ri­dor (CPEC) met here on Mon­day un­der the Chair­man­ship of Sen­a­tor Mushahid Hus­sain Sayed. Min­is­ter for En­ergy, Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Muham­mad Atif rep­re­sented the pro­vin­cial govern­ment and pre­sented the KPK's per­spec­tive re­gard­ing en­ergy projects to be in­cluded in the CPEC. Atif pro­posed 29 en­ergy projects for their fund­ing and in­clu­sion in CPEC to speed up the progress. The mem­bers of the Par­lia­men­tary Com­mit­tee wel­comed the pres­ence of the KPK's Min­is­ter for En­ergy.

Sen­a­tor Mushahid Hus­sain Sayed said the Govern­ment en­sured rep­re­sen­ta­tion of all provinces in all the meet­ings of CPEC with China, in­clud­ing the up­com­ing meet­ing of Joint work­ing Group on En­ergy in April and JCC in May.

The com­mit­tee was also briefed by the Chair­man, Na­tional High­way Au­thor­ity on the is­sue of Dera Is­mail Khan Mo­tor­way re­gard­ing its western route, its progress and time­line of com­ple­tion.

The com­mit­tee wel­comed the pro­pos­als from the KPK Govern­ment and said the Fed­eral Govern­ment's rel­e­vant min­istries should take th­ese for­ward af­ter due con­sul­ta­tion. On the is­sue of reg­is­tra­tion of the in­den- ture of lease with the Govern­ment of Sindh, Sec­re­tary Wa­ter and Power, Mo­ham­mad Younus Dagha re­ported to the com­mit­tee that progress had been made which re­quired the ap­proval from all stake­hold­ers and the mat­ter would be re­solved within two weeks.

He also in­formed that the Min­is­ter for Wa­ter and Power, Khawaja Muham­mad Asif would meet the Sindh Chief Min­is­ter on this is­sue next week, to fi­nal­ize res­o­lu­tion of the is­sue. Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor PPIB, on the progress re­port by the com­mit­tee com­pris­ing Sen­a­tor Lt Gen (Retd) Salahud­din Tir­mizi and Sen­a­tor Shi­bli Faraz, on the is­sue of Suki- Kinari Hy­del Power Pro­ject in Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa, in­formed that a re­vised no­tice for land ac­qui­si­tion was is­sued on March 16 to im­pose Sec­tion-4. Chief Min­is­ter, Govern­ment of Gil­git Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman also at­tended the meet­ing as a spe­cial in­vi­tee and up­dated the com­mit­tee on the pro­ject of Di­amer Bhasha Dam. He in­formed that the progress on the pro­ject was sat­is­fac­tory.

The new govern­ment in Gil­git Baltistan saved Rs 7.5 bil­lion in that pro­ject. The Chief Min­is­ter, Gil­git Baltistan also in­vited the Par­lia­men­tary Com­mit­tee on CPEC to visit Gil­git to know the progress of the CPEC projects in Gil­git Baltistan.The meet­ing was at­tended by Chair­man, Mushahid Hus­sain Sayed, Akram Khan Dur­rani, Min­is­ter for Hous­ing and Works, Rana Muham­mad Afzal Khan, Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary for Fi­nance,Rev­enue, Eco­nomic Affairs Sta­tis­tics and Pri­va­ti­za­tion, Sar­dar Awais Ah­mad Khan Leghari, MNA, Asad Umar, MNA, Ghous Bux Khan Ma­har, MNA, Sen­a­tor Sar­dar Fateh Muham­mad Muham­mad Has­sani, Sen­a­tor, Lt Gen (Retd) Salahud­din Tir­mizi, Sen­a­tor, Talha Mehmood, Sen­a­tor, Shi­bli Faraz, Sen­a­tor, Baz Muham­mad Khan along with the Chief Min­is­ter, Govern­ment of Gil­git Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman and Min­is­ter for En­ergy, KPK, M Atif as spe­cial in­vi­tee.
