Govt im­ple­ment­ing sev­eral power projects in Gil­git-Baltistan

IS­LAM­ABAD: The Gil­git-Baltistan (GB) gov­ern­ment is imp le­ment­ing a num­ber of hy­dro-power projects to over­come its short­age. A spokesman of Wa­ter and Power Depart­ment Gil­gitBaltistan­said three on­go­ing projects cost­ing 797 mil­lion ru­pees will be com­pleted be­fore June next year.

He said the pro­vi­sion of clean en­ergy to the peo­ple of GB for do­mes­tic us­age would im­prove the qual­ity of the lives of mil­lions. Spokesman said hy­dro en­ergy is en­vi­ron­ment- friendly, low- cost and eco­nom­i­cally vi­able and it can save bil­lions of dol­lars re­quired to im­port fuel for power gen­er­a­tion that re­sults in costly agri­cul­tural and in­dus­trial pro­duc­tion.
