ECC al­lows 4 IPPs to gen­er­ate power from RLNG

Eco­nomic Co­or­di­na­tion Com­mit­tee (ECC) at its meet­ing in Is­lam­abad to­day (Fri­day) ap­proved the power gen­er­a­tion by four In­de­pen­dent Power Pro­duc­ers (IPPs) from the Re­fined Liq­uid Nat­u­ral Gas (RLNG). The meet­ing was chaired by Prime Min­is­ter Shahid Khaqan Ab­basi. The power plants in­clude Saif Power Lim­ited, Ori­ent Power Lim­ited, Hal­more Power Gen­er­a­tion Com­pany and Saphire Elec­tric Com­pany lim­ited.

These IPPs have dual fuel plants which can be op­er­ated on nat­u­ral gas as a pri­mary fuel and high speed diesel as sec­ondary fuel. The op­er­a­tions of these IPPs on RLNG will re­sult in sig­nif­i­cant cost sav­ing each month. The ECC also per­mit­ted ex­ten­sion in the dead­line of ex­port of forty one thou­sand met­ric tons sur­plus urea till 28th Fe­bru­ary out of which an ad­di­tional quan­tity of thirty five thou­sand met­ric tons urea to be ex­ported to Sri Lanka. The meet­ing also ap­proved a pro­posal for ex­ten­sion in the date for ap­pli­ca­bil­ity of re­duced with­hold­ing tax at the rate of 0.4pc for non-fil­ers.
