New chairman for air­line group

Air Ni­ug­ini chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer and out­go­ing chairman of the As­so­ci­a­tion of South Pa­cific Air­lines (ASPA), Si­mon Foo, has wel­comed the new ASPA chairman, Ge­off Bow­maker, who is a vet­eran of the air­line in­dus­try and the chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of Nauru Air­lines.

“I am con­fi­dent he will con­tinue to de­velop the as­so­ci­a­tion’s goals to nur­ture and grow the air­line in­dus­try in our re­gion.”

Bow­maker started as a ju­nior clerk at Qan­tas in 1968 and worked his way up to se­nior po­si­tions.

He has also held se­nior po­si­tions at Air Namibia in South­ern Africa and Air Pa­cific in Suva, Fiji.

“I am hon­oured to be elected to lead ASPA for the next 12 months and I ap­pre­ci­ate the good work of the pre­vi­ous chairman, Mr Foo, who has greatly as­sisted my tran­si­tion into the role,” Bow­maker said.

His vi­sion now is to con­tinue to de­velop the as­so­ci­a­tion’s goals, in­clud­ing co­op­er­a­tion among air­lines for the de­vel­op­ment of com­mer­cial avi­a­tion within, to and from the South Pa­cific re­gion.

ASPA has 13 air­line mem­bers and 46 in­dus­try ser­vice provider mem­bers.

Its pri­mary role is to serve as a com­mon fo­rum for mem­bers’ views on mat­ters of com­mon in­ter­est. ■
