Tak­ing the lead

Po­ten­tial fu­ture lead­ers at Air Ni­ug­ini re­cently at­tended an emerg­ing lead­ers pro­gram con­ducted by the As­so­ci­a­tion of South Pa­cific Air­lines (ASPA). The air­line’s 25 emerg­ing lead­ers were se­lected 18 months ago, and have been train­ing in Pa­pua New Guinea and over­seas.

Air Ni­ug­ini chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, Si­mon Foo, speak­ing at the ASPA pro­gram, said: “I chal­lenge you all as lead­ers to aim for the chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer post as your ul­ti­mate goal and to build a strong man­age­ment team for the fu­ture pros­per­ity of our na­tional air­line.”

A num­ber of the par­tic­i­pants un­der the pro­gram have al­ready been ap­pointed to se­nior roles in Air Ni­ug­ini, in­clud­ing se­nior po­si­tions pre­vi­ously held by non-cit­i­zens. ■
