Pick and Pay at Villar SIPAG Farm School

THE FIRST EVER Pick and Pay activity by East-West Seed Co. Inc. was recently conducted at the Villar SIPAG Farm School in Bacoor, Cavite. This was held at the East-West Seed Demo Farm that was installed for the delegates of the Asian Seed Congress in order to showcase more than 100 varieties of vegetables grown in many countries.

To maximize the impact of the impressive vegetable demo showcase, local visitors were invited to participate in the pick and pay activity and availed of freshly picked vegetables that include hot pepper, eggplant, tomato, mustard, lettuce, pakchoy, kangkong, bittergourd, bottlegourd, ridgegourd, waxgourd, watermelon, melon, honeydew, pumpkin, and papaya. Guests harvested fresh vegetables and they paid for it at farmgate price.

Senator Cynthia A. Villar and East-West Seed Project Manager Martin Hinlo welcomed the guests and led the ceremonial harvesting. Papaya was chosen for the ceremonial harvesting because papaya was the first crop planted in the demo field.

The activity has excited a lot of guests, especially those who live in the urban areas. Aside from experiencing the joys of harvesting their own produce, guests were also able to learn how vegetables could be grown in their own backyards.

Sen. Cynthia Villar and East-West Seed Project Manager Martin Hinlo welcomed guests and led the ceremonial harvesting at the Pick and Pay activity at the Villar SIPAG Farm School in Bacoor, Cavite.

Sen. Villar gave guests a pep talk and encouraged them to also plant and eat their own nutritious vegetables right in their homes.
