Starting this New Year right for pet lovers is a word of caution. Beware of rabies and pet-snatchers. Village and subdivision residents in and around Metro Manila should be fully aware of the dreaded disease that loose cats and dogs usually carry.

A bite from them will mean seeing a doctor for a series of antirabies shots.

Not to be outdone, pet snatchers prey on pets as a source of exotic food: the meat of cats and dogs, especially in Northern Luzon.

Recently, a checkpoint team of policemen and animal lovers seized hundreds of kilos of dog and cat meat for the spicy meals of some exotic food aficionados, especially for appetizers.

Animal welfare groups are on the alert for these cat and dog meat lovers.

But pet lovers boost the Animal Welfare law that goes after cruelty to pets.

After the subdued noise of firecrackers last New Year’s Eve, pets leaves their noise shelter and play with their masters.

This is the balance of life – a picture of love and friendship between man and pets. The new 2018 means the start of new life and stronger loves of friendship.
