’Comfort’ ng 2 Russian drug suspects tiniyak

Nangako si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ilalagay ang dalawang akusadong Russian drug traffickers sa isang “comfortable house”, sa halip na sa mga siksikang kulungan sa bansa.

Ito ang tiniyak ni Duterte sa pagpupulong nila nitong Lunes ng gabi ni Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev sa sidelines ng 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit sa Manila.

“I would just like to say that we have a working functional justice system here and they will get a fair trial and that they will be detained in a comfortable house,” ani Duterte kay Medvedev, batay sa official transcript.

“Whether (the allegations are) true or not, we will find out but I will see to it that they are treated fairly and no additional stress on their person that will happen.”

Sina Yuri Kirdyushkin at Anastasia Novopashina ay iniimbestigahan sa drug smuggling, ayon kay Duterte.

Inaresto si Kirdyushkin ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency ( PDEA) noong Oktubre 5, 2016 matapos makuhanan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ng 7.4 kilo ng powdered cocaine at 2.5 kilo ng liquid cocaine sa kanyang bagahe sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Si Anastasia Novopashina, naman ay inaresto sa NAIA noong Nobyembre 2016 matapos matagpuan ng Customs officials sa kanyang pagiingat ang high-grade cocaine.

Samantala, siyam na kasunduan ang nilagdaan ng Pilipinas at Russia nitong Lunes ng gabi. Sinaksihan nina Duterte at Medvedev ang paglalagda sa Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters; Treaty on Extradition; at Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation sa pagitan ng Department of Energy at ng State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” ng Russian Federation, at iba pa.
