TRIBUTE
para kay Direk Maryo J. de Los Reyes (SLN) ang main theme ng Ikatlong ToFarm Film Festival na ‘Tribute to Life (Parating Na).’
Sa grand launching ng 3rd ToFarm Film Festival sa Rizal Ballroom ng Makati ShangriLa Hotel, sinabi ng founder na si Dra. Milagros
How na labis nilang ikinabigla ang pagpanaw ni Direk Maryo.
“We were deeply saddened with the demise of Direk Maryo J delos Reyes, our first TFF director,” aniya. “He gave so much of himself for TFF. When he suddenly left us, we found ourselves at a crossroad. Should we go on with the project or not.
“But after a lot of thinking, I personally thought it’s best to carry on what Direk Maryo started. The festival would be a continuation of his vision for the farmers and for our film industry. This is our tribute to him.”
Inihayag din ni Dra. How ang batikang manunulat na si Bibeth Orteza bilang festival director, Direk Joey Romero bilang managing director, at Laurice Guillen bilang consultant.
Sinabi rin ni Dra. How, presidente at CEO ng Universal Harvester, Inc., na natutuwa siya sa suporta nina Bibeth at Direk Joey.
“It motivates us further to come up with more meaningful films that, hopefully, will follow the success of our previous entries,” sabi ng ToFarm founder.
Nagkaroon muna ng meeting sina Dra. How, Direk Joey, at Bibeth kung paano nila ilulunsad ang 2018 Banaue International Music Composition Competition, preliminary sa pagbukas nga ng 2018 TOFARM filmfest.

“Ako, I‘m moved by this effort to not only work for the preservation of Batanes but corollary to it is having a symphonic orchestra composition contest using a preferably a native instruments. Kasi right now, my husband (Direk
Carlitos Siguion-Reyna) is involved in combination of opera and fashion show, ‘Pasasalamat For Marawi’ on April 6.
“So, he asked me to do the script for that. So, classical music tapos ‘yung tama sa akin na marinig ‘yung native instruments. Kanina naisip ko, ‘Ay exactly,’ mga ganyan,” kuwento ni Bibeth.
Ang 2018 Banaue Music Composition Competition ang kaunaunahan sa Pilipinas na may cash prize na US$12,000 para sa grand prize at dalawang consolation prizes na US$ 6,000 plus isang linggong immersion o pagtira sa Banaue.
Sampung finalists ang mapipili na mapapanood sa finals night na gaganapin sa Cultural Center of the Philippines sa Hulyo 25.
Ang kumpetisyon ay para bagong project na Banaue Rice Terraces Restoration Project ng Universal Harvester in partnership with the local government unit sa pangunguna ni Banaue Mayor Jerry Dalipog.
Ang ToFarm filmfest naman ay gaganapin sa Setyembre 12-18 at ang awards night ay sa September 15.
Para sa filmmakers na interesadong sumali ay narito ang schedule ng pagsumite ng entries.
Sa Abril 20 – deadline of submission of screenplays ng ToFarm sa opisina nila.
Mayo 9 – announcement of shortlist na
gaganapin din sa opisina ng ToFarm.
Mayo 17 at 18 – pitching of short-listed scripts sa ToFarm office.
May 23 – announcement of winners na magkakaroon ng presscon sa Novotel, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.
Setyembre 12-18 – theatrical screenings of ToFarm Film Festival entries
Setyembre 15 – ToFarm Film Festival awards at closing ceremony na gaganapin sa Makati Shangri-la Hotel.

Samantala, may pagmamalaking ibinalita ni Dra. How na lahat ng entries sa ToFarm Film Festival ay nagkakamit ng awards mula sa iba’t ibang bansa at maging dito sa atin tulad ng mga pelikulang Pauwi Na, Pitong Kabang Palay,
Paglipay, High Tide, at Instalado. “Marami pang awards na dumarating mula sa iba’t ibang bansa and most of our films ay hindi masyadong kilala rito. We look forward continuously produce by our film directors na mananalo pa,”say ni dra. How.
Nagparinig din siya na, “Medyo nalulungkot ako na mga films ko, hindi masyadong napapalabas dito kasi hindi namin mapalabas sa moviehouses kasi namimili yata sila (theater owners) ng mas malakas mabenta kaya gagawa na kami ng commercial films para mas maraming makapanood.”
Kaya may anim na commercial films na gagawin ngayong taon ang Universal Harvester Films.
“Bago namatay si Direk Maryo ay napagusapan na namin ang genre ng commercial films na gagawin, may rom-com, may horror, may LGBT, action-comedy. Kung ano ‘yung hinihingi ng masa, mayroon din kami,” kuwento ni Dra. How.
