Bandera (Mindanao) - - FRONT PAGE - — John Roson

SECURITY forces seized a cache of explosives allegedly hidden by New People's Army members, during an operation in Banga, South Cotabato, the military said Thursday.

Soldiers and policemen found the explosives at Sitio Lambantong Odi, Brgy. Lambingi, Wednesday, said Capt. Rhyan Batchar, Army 10th Infantry Division public affairs officer.

Members of the 27th Infantry Battalion and Banga Police were sent to the area

earlier, to check reports civilians that NPA members had left an IED cache there, he said.

Found in the area were two M79 grenade launchers, two claymore landmines, three improvised explosive devices, and eight detonating switches, Batchar said.

The discovery deterred "possible atrocities" to be conducted by the rebel group, he said, adding that police and military have intensified security operations in the area.
