Yoshiko rules PCSO-Bandera Cup
WITH majority of the racing enthusiasts looking the other way, longshot Yoshiko stole the thunder and ruled the PCSO-Bandera Cup benefit race on Saturday at the MetroTurf Racing Complex in Malvar, Batangas.
Yoshiko, a seventh pick in this 10-entry race, made a strong move in the homestretch to upset heavy favorite Precious Jewel which settled for second place honors.
The connection of Yoshiko, led by owner Jay Coching, trainer Manuel Garcia and jockey Ryan Roy Garcia, received the P150,000 purse and trophy from Inquirer Bandera and the sponsoring Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Inquirer Bandera, celebrating its 27th anniversary this month, will share part of the event's proceeds to the Inquirer Newsboy Foundation.
Also supporting the Bandera Racing Festival are Boysen Paints, Unilab, EEG Development Corp., Radyo Inquirer 990, and Bandera Mobile App.
Topping the BanderaEEG Development Corp race was Penrith. Ruling the Bandera-Boysen Paints race was Savannah Bull. And winning BanderaUnilab race was Obelisk.
