DOE hit for not doing job
BAYANMuna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate yesterday hit the Department of Energy for allegedly pretending to be helpless on the continuing oil price hikes.
In a statement, Zarate said that the SOE should stop making excuses and do its duty to protect the consumers.
“The DOE is just making excuses that they do not know or that they cannot summon the data needed to compute the real price of oil in the country. All the data we need can be summoned by the DOE secretary under Sections 12 and 15 of the Oil Deregulation Law. Wh a t is happening though is that the DOE s e ems to be the spokespersons and lawyers of the Big 3 with the continuing price hikes, said Zarate.
The solon also urged the DOE and the oil companies to immediately submit the data that he requested during the House Committee on Energy last month.
He said that the data will determine the real price of oil in the country.
“Even if we study the computations earlier submitted by the DOE we can see that their formula is so obsolete that their computation is way off the actual oil price by at least P13,” he added.
Zarate said that while Congress also has the power to summon the dat a n e e d e d , the DOE should do its work and not let these continuous oil price hikes.
Oil companies yesterday announced an increase of 95 centavos for every liter of gasoline and kerosene and 60 centavos for diesel.
