PH HAULS 3 MORE GOLD MEDALS
PARA cyclist Arthus Bucay and woodpusher Sander Severino added three more gold medals in the Team Philippines coffers on the eve of the closing ceremony of the 3rd Asian ParaGames held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Bucay finally snared his first gold medal in the quadrennial event in the 4000m Individual Pursuit as he caught his rival from host Indonesia Surfyan Saori. Saori settled for the silver while the bronze went to Mahdi Mohammad of Iran.
Severino, a Fide Master, claimed two more chess gold medals in rapid play to become the most productive Pinoy athlete with a four-gold haul and raised the country’s total harvest to nine in the multi-sports tournament.
Severino, who was diagnosed with muscle dystrophy during childhood, beat FM Serik Soltanov of Kazakhstan in the seventh and final round to rule the individual rapid P1 event with 6.5 points ahead of countrymen Henry Lopez (5.0) and Jasper Rom (4.5), who copped the silver and bronze, respectively. — Angelito Oredo
