2 Quezon top cops sacked over ‘hulidap’
QUEZON provincial police director Col. Audie Madrideo ordered the relief of the police chief of Candelaria town after some of the latter’s subordinates were arrested for allegedly abducting drug suspects and forcing them to pay money for their release.
Lt.Col. Jezreel Calderon was administratively relieved to give way to an impartial investigation, Madrideo said.
Also relieved were all members of the Candelaria Police’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), he said.
Madrideo made the announcement Monday, as two other members of the Candelaria DEU suspected of involvement in the “hulidap” operations surrendered to him.
Staff Sergeants Joseph Francis Benedict and Rexter Cantos surrendered to Madrideo at provincial police headquarters, in front of their legal counsel.
Benedict and Cantos are said to be the two lawmen who escaped when members of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group raided the Candelaria DEU’s safehouse in Brgy. Maasin, Thursday afternoon.
They have been placed under restrictive custody and their government-issued firearms have been recalled, Madrideo said.
