PC security via smartphone app
As advanced as smartphones these days are, they have yet to beat the performance and capabilities that a personal computer ( PC) provides. Smartphones allow one to work mobile; the PC is still king when it comes to one’s working life. Through the HP WorkWise app, however, a PC and a smartphone can now work together.
HP WorkWise is a PC management mobile application that is free to download on the Apple Store and Google Play.
It enables a smartphone to help improve the security of a PC through tamper detection, which gives instant notifications if there are failed sign-in attempts, the PC is moved or unplugged and if there are network connections and inputs made to the PC, like USB devices. It has proximity-based auto lock/unlock function so one need not to worry whenever he steps away from the PC, his information is kept protected.
The app can monitor the battery charge and cycle life status of the PC, its memory use and available storage capacity, as well as its temperature. When it is not properly shut down, a PC’s temperature can go up. If this happens, the PC can then be put to sleep or hibernate mode through the app. All of these notifications are real- time and are clearly displayed on the app’s dashboard.
Printing remotely is also made easy as HP WorkWise can download printer drivers directly and seamlessly to the PC by scanning the desired printer QR code. One can then do away with entering any printer details manually. This automatic printer driver installation feature only works with HP printers that use HP UDP printer drivers. It is also required that the mobile phone has a working camera.
The HP WorkWise app runs on iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 8 or above and on Android phones running v4.4 or higher. It is compatible with 2016 or newer HP Notebook/ Desktop running Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
