UP-Mindanao sports complex targeted for completion by 2018
THE SPORTS complex being built within the University of the Philippines-Mindanao (UP-Min) in Mintal, Davao City is targeted for completion by 2018, with the indoor sports facilities now in the finishing touches, according to former 3rd District Congressman Isidro T. Ungab, who pushed for and helped source funds for the P300-million project. Mr. Ungab, in an interview with BusinessWorld, said work on the track and field oval, football field, and two outdoor stadiums are also ongoing. The sports complex is being positioned as a possible venue for the South East Asian Games (SEA Games) in 2019. Last year, Philippine Sports Commission Chair William I. Ramirez confirmed that the Philippines will host the regional event, with Manila and Davao City as the top two choices as venue. Aside from the UP-Min sports complex, other nearby facilities that can be used are the University of Mindanao Gymnasium and the Davao del Norte Sports Complex. —
