Lecture at Ateneo
BELLAS ARTES PROJECTS (BAP), with support from Ateneo Art Gallery, is pleased to present “I am not Bruce Conner: A Talk by Bruce Jenkins,” a lecture about the film practice of the iconic American artist Bruce Conner (1933–2008) ahead of the upcoming exhibition Bruce
Conner: Out of Body, opening at the Outpost on Feb. 24, 2018 with a special screening presentation at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, premiering on March 3, curated by Diana Campbell Betancourt, artistic director of Bellas Artes Projects. The talk will be held on Nov. 20 at noon to 2 p.m. at the Ateneo Art Gallery in Areté. A conversation with Diana Campbell Betancourt will immediately follow. The talk is free and open to the public. Bruce Conner lived and was based in San Francisco, California and was a key part of the San Francisco Beat scene during the late 1950s. He became known for his assemblages (made between 1957–1964) crafted from an assortment of cast-off materials before gaining international admiration for his innovative avant-garde films.
