SWU rules San Fernando hoop
A NEW head coach and an overhauled roster did little to stop the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras from capturing the title in the San Fernando Invitational Tournament 2017 as they beat the reigning Cesafi champions and bitter rivals, University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 87-85, in the finals on Thursday night in barangay Pitalo, San Fernando.
Former UV Baby Lancer and Far Eastern University Tamaraw, Reeve Ugsang, did the most damage as he scored 18 points to pace SWU. Another UV product, Gerald Fernandez, came back to haunt his former school as he tallied 14 markers.
In all, 11 players scored for the Cobras, underscoring their renewed commit- ment to team play after several seasons on leaning heavily on the offensive exploits of former two-time C es afiMV PM ac mac T al lo, who has since gone on to Manila to play for Racal in the PBA D-League.
The Cobras will be off to Iloi lo on April 28 to compete in the Iloilo National Invitational Basketball Championship.
