EX-COP KILLED IN BABAG

A for­mer po­lice­man and a body­guard of a con­gress­man of Suri­gao del Sur was shot dead by a mo­tor­cy­clerid­ing gun­man on Wed­nes­day in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City.

Eli­gio Man­tilla, 57, res­i­dent of Barangay Bang­bang, Cor­dova town, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hos­pi­tal after sus­tain­ing gun­shot wounds in his body, but he did not reach the hos­pi­tal alive.

SPO1 Lydo Pi­nos of the Lapu-Lapu City Po­lice Of­fice Homi­cide Sec­tion said that in­ves­ti­ga­tion showed that the vic­tim was at­tacked while he was driv­ing his mo­tor­cy­cle on his way home.

Two men on a mo­tor­cy­cle was tail­ing the vic­tim, and when they reached Babag, the back­rider pulled out a gun and shot Man­tilla sev­eral times.

The shooter and his driver-co­hort, who were wear­ing full-face hel­ment, then fled the crime scene.

Po­lice were still try­ing to de­ter­mine the mo­tive of the killing and the iden­tity of the per­sons re­spon­si­ble of the crime./

LAPU DRUG BUST: TWO NABBED

A 30-year-old man and his 40-year-old mother-in­law, whom po­lice de­scribed as new drug play­ers in the area, were ar­rested in a buy­bust oper­a­tion on Wed­nes­day in Si­tio Soong 1, Barangay Mac­tan, Lapu-Lapu City.

Michael Om­ba­jen and Amy Casinillo of Si­tio Soong were de­tained at the La­puLapu City Po­lice Of­fice de­ten­tion cell after they were caught with 21 sa­chets of sus­pected shabu with an es­ti­mated street value of P10,000 and P700 cash be- lieved to be pro­ceeds of their il­le­gal trade, said Se­nior Insp. Joey Bi­coy of the City Drug En­force­ment Unit.

Bi­coy said that both sus­pects claimed that they only started sell­ing il­le­gal drugs a month ago./

RIDER DIES IN TOLEDO COL­LI­SION

A mo­tor­cy­cle rider died on Wed­nes­day after he col­lided with a 10-wheeler dumptruck trav­el­ing along the na­tional high­way of Barangay Mag­dugo, Toledo City.

Je­sus Biar­cal, 25, of Barangay Cabi­an­gon, Pi­na­munga­jan, Cebu, died after he slammed into the truck and was ran over by the truck.

He was rushed to the hos­pi­tal but he did not reach the hos­pi­tal alive.

Toledo po­lice said Biar­cal was head­ing to­ward Pi­na­munga­jan and over­took an­other ve­hi­cle in Barangay Mag­dugo and en­croached on the lane of the truck, which came from Balam­ban town, and was driven by Ri­cardo Arias of San Fer­nando town.

Arias sur­ren­dered to po­lice after the ac­ci­dent./

TEACHER STABBED DEAD IN AS­TURIAS

A re­tired pub­lic school teacher was found dead with sev­eral stab wounds in her body in­side her house on Wed­nes­day in Barangay San Roque, As­turias town in western Cebu.

The body of Ester­lina Apura, 62, was found by her son, who got off from work in a ship­yard in Balam­ban town, in­side her house, said PO3 Der­win Ber­me­suico of the As­turias Po­lice Sta­tion.

Ber­me­suico said that they were look­ing into rob­bery as the mo­tive of the killing be­cause be­long­ings in the vic­tim’s house were in dis­ar­ray as if the sus­pect was look­ing for some­thing./
