EX-COP KILLED IN BABAG
A former policeman and a bodyguard of a congressman of Surigao del Sur was shot dead by a motorcycleriding gunman on Wednesday in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City.
Eligio Mantilla, 57, resident of Barangay Bangbang, Cordova town, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in his body, but he did not reach the hospital alive.
SPO1 Lydo Pinos of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section said that investigation showed that the victim was attacked while he was driving his motorcycle on his way home.
Two men on a motorcycle was tailing the victim, and when they reached Babag, the backrider pulled out a gun and shot Mantilla several times.
The shooter and his driver-cohort, who were wearing full-face helment, then fled the crime scene.
Police were still trying to determine the motive of the killing and the identity of the persons responsible of the crime./
LAPU DRUG BUST: TWO NABBED
A 30-year-old man and his 40-year-old mother-inlaw, whom police described as new drug players in the area, were arrested in a buybust operation on Wednesday in Sitio Soong 1, Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
Michael Ombajen and Amy Casinillo of Sitio Soong were detained at the LapuLapu City Police Office detention cell after they were caught with 21 sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P10,000 and P700 cash be- lieved to be proceeds of their illegal trade, said Senior Insp. Joey Bicoy of the City Drug Enforcement Unit.
Bicoy said that both suspects claimed that they only started selling illegal drugs a month ago./
RIDER DIES IN TOLEDO COLLISION
A motorcycle rider died on Wednesday after he collided with a 10-wheeler dumptruck traveling along the national highway of Barangay Magdugo, Toledo City.
Jesus Biarcal, 25, of Barangay Cabiangon, Pinamungajan, Cebu, died after he slammed into the truck and was ran over by the truck.
He was rushed to the hospital but he did not reach the hospital alive.
Toledo police said Biarcal was heading toward Pinamungajan and overtook another vehicle in Barangay Magdugo and encroached on the lane of the truck, which came from Balamban town, and was driven by Ricardo Arias of San Fernando town.
Arias surrendered to police after the accident./
TEACHER STABBED DEAD IN ASTURIAS
A retired public school teacher was found dead with several stab wounds in her body inside her house on Wednesday in Barangay San Roque, Asturias town in western Cebu.
The body of Esterlina Apura, 62, was found by her son, who got off from work in a shipyard in Balamban town, inside her house, said PO3 Derwin Bermesuico of the Asturias Police Station.
Bermesuico said that they were looking into robbery as the motive of the killing because belongings in the victim’s house were in disarray as if the suspect was looking for something./
