Ta­bal wants to break her Milo record

ON her third trip to Tus­cany, Italy, Ce­buana Olympian and South­east Asian Games (SEAG) women’s marathon gold medal­ist Mary Joy Ta­bal re­vealed that break­ing the Milo Marathon grand fi­nals record will be one of her mo­ti­va­tions.

Ta­bal is gun­ning for an un­prece­dented fifth straight Milo na­tional crown on De­cem­ber 3 in Cebu City.

The 28-year-old Ta­bal of Barangay Guba, Cebu City, will leave for Italy on Mon­day to start a year­long train­ing camp in prepa­ra­tion for next year’s Asian Games in Jakarta, In­done­sia.

Ta­bal will spend a month at the Tus­cany Train­ing Cen­ter where she will be closely su­per­vised by her Ital­ian coach Giuseppe Gi­ambrone who also han­dled her two pre­vi­ous train­ing camps there.

A TO­TAL of 340 hard­core run­ners will test their re­solve and stamina in to­mor­row’s first Salomon XTrail Race Pilip­inas con­sid­er­ing go­ing af­ter the Milo record which she her­self es­tab­lished last year. “It’s part of our goal, and I am re­ally hop­ing for it.”

Last year, she bet­tered her record of two hours and 48 min­utes by clock­ing 2:47.53 in the 40th Na­tional Milo Marathon grand fi­nals in Iloilo City. Ta­bal also bested her 21k per­sonal record last sum­mer when she topped the Sco­tia Bank Ottawa 2017 that will co­in­cide with the grand open­ing of Aboiti­z­land’s Foressa Trails in Barangay Can­so­moroy, Balam­ban.

The race will fea­ture a 21-kilo­me­ter and 11k off-road trail run. Each dis­tance has 170 en­tries as or­ga­niz­ers lim­ited the num­ber of par­tic­i­pants to en­sure the qual­ity of the run and safety of the par­tic­i­pants.
