AN ICONIC FRENCH VOYAGE TO CEBU
Champagne, monograms and a new mail order service to rule them all
Luggage-maker and It-bag creator Louis Vuitton flew to Cebu last August to host its first event outside of Manila. Held at ShangriLa Mactan’s Ocean Pavilion, which provided the perfect backdrop for sunset cocktails with lavish hors d’oeuvres prepared by executive chef Mark Mulder, accompanied by freeflowing Moët & Chandon, the colorful crowd flocked to the luxury launch.
The cocktail event was followed by a three-day trunk show to introduce its Mail Order Service to a growing Cebuano clientele. The French label presented charming tableaux of iconic LV merch next to Vito Selma’s modern furniture.
Admirers of Louis Vuitton will note its diametric measures to engage the imagination. From the discreet minimalist luxury of the Lock It to the ladylike sophistication of the Capucines—both led by fawn-like Hollywood golden girl Michelle Williams’ campaign—juxtaposed against the new set of humorous, playful purses, like the boxy monogram Petite-Malle or the vintage spirit of the Bowling Vanity Tufettage with its sheepskin covered pearl chain handles, it’s an aesthetic presumably ushered in by the changes in design leadership within the label. Take us to your happy place, Nicolas Ghesquière! Wherever you go, rest assured, a monogrammed horde will follow.
