Cults seem to be a fixture of the past—but in 1960s Northern California, they were anything but. Evie Boyd is an impressionable 14-year-old girl who happens to be in the wrong playground at the wrong time. Before long, she succumbs to the siren call of a group of mysterious girls... and the Kool-aid is so cold and refreshing, she can’t help but take a sip. The novel is inspired by real-life events surrounding cult leader Charles manson. As the story unfolds, Evie hurtles toward certain death, with any hope for salvation bleak and distant.
