Tucked away in the scenic heights of Antipolo is this quaint restaurant that has been quietly in existence for nearly 30 years. Vieux Chalet has all the right elements of a romantic hide—away, with a breathtaking view, intimate ambience, and of course, top-rate gourmet food, and has been witness to many blossoming romances, anniversary dinners, and probably a marriage proposal or two. The setting appears truly perfect for such occasions, and the best time to go is when there are clear night skies so one can gaze out the windows for a breathtaking view of the city lights down below. The setting is intimate and quiet, with 10 tables that make reservations a good idea. Then again, it has started offering fun kiddie party packages at the adjacent St. Moritz, that has a garden and swimming pool which is good for 50 to 70 guests. This Swiss-style chalet is run by Susan Hassig, a Filipina who is married to Swiss Tony Hassig. Coined as Home Swiss Home, this diner offers its customers the ultimate alternative eating habit as a pause from their fast paced life in the metropolitan. Now being operated by their daughter, Chef Florence, the restaurant offers many homemade dishes including its pasta, bread and cheese, best washed down with their selection of wines. Servings are done family-style – soups, salads, and pasta dishes are large enough for two or three, while main dishes are so good that you will hesitate to share. Some are traditional Swiss recipes that have been handed down through Hassig generations, such as the homemade paté de foie, and the raclette. The Lamb Shoulder in Café de Paris Sauce is made with sheep that they have raised themselves, then, there’s that Swiss staple, Fondue. And of course, it cannot be truly Swiss without chocolates, and their Flo’s Dark Secrets dessert is de!nitely to die for. They also have a bed and breakfast inn, St. Moritz Swiss Inn and Spa, which customers can check out while they are in the laid-back embrace of Antipolo.
