Tucked away in the scenic heights of An­tipolo is this quaint restau­rant that has been qui­etly in ex­is­tence for nearly 30 years. Vieux Chalet has all the right el­e­ments of a ro­man­tic hide—away, with a breath­tak­ing view, in­ti­mate am­bi­ence, and of course, top-rate gourmet food, and has been wit­ness to many blos­som­ing ro­mances, an­niver­sary din­ners, and prob­a­bly a mar­riage pro­posal or two. The set­ting ap­pears truly per­fect for such oc­ca­sions, and the best time to go is when there are clear night skies so one can gaze out the win­dows for a breath­tak­ing view of the city lights down be­low. The set­ting is in­ti­mate and quiet, with 10 ta­bles that make reser­va­tions a good idea. Then again, it has started of­fer­ing fun kid­die party pack­ages at the ad­ja­cent St. Moritz, that has a garden and swim­ming pool which is good for 50 to 70 guests. This Swiss-style chalet is run by Su­san Hassig, a Filip­ina who is mar­ried to Swiss Tony Hassig. Coined as Home Swiss Home, this diner of­fers its cus­tomers the ul­ti­mate alternative eat­ing habit as a pause from their fast paced life in the met­ro­pol­i­tan. Now be­ing op­er­ated by their daugh­ter, Chef Florence, the restau­rant of­fers many home­made dishes in­clud­ing its pasta, bread and cheese, best washed down with their se­lec­tion of wines. Serv­ings are done fam­ily-style – soups, sal­ads, and pasta dishes are large enough for two or three, while main dishes are so good that you will hes­i­tate to share. Some are tra­di­tional Swiss recipes that have been handed down through Hassig gen­er­a­tions, such as the home­made paté de foie, and the ra­clette. The Lamb Shoul­der in Café de Paris Sauce is made with sheep that they have raised them­selves, then, there’s that Swiss sta­ple, Fon­due. And of course, it can­not be truly Swiss with­out choco­lates, and their Flo’s Dark Se­crets dessert is de!nitely to die for. They also have a bed and break­fast inn, St. Moritz Swiss Inn and Spa, which cus­tomers can check out while they are in the laid-back em­brace of An­tipolo.
