All at Once
Michael Kors introduces a new fragrance for the man who wants it all ( and probably already has it all).
KORS IS NOTHING IF NOT A HARD WORKER. To illustrate, note that for nearly eight years, he juggled two full-time jobs in fashion, one in Paris and another in New York. But perhaps a better example is the scope in the fashion industry that Kors has penetrated over the last decade—a pretty good decade for the American designer, many critics might add—as Kors has become a master at marketing his brand to a much wider spectrum of consumers outside the uptown crowd to which he originally catered. One could even argue that Kors’ brand was the brand that required the introduction of the term accessible luxury.
It’s not too surprising, then, that Kors is now looking to be as ubiquitous in the grooming arena with the introduction of his second male signature fragrance, Extreme Blue. “This is a natural transition for our brand because it’s a blend that we also strive for with many of our men’s designs—taking clothes that he would normally wear on the weekend or on vacation and making them work for daily life in the city,” he says. Where his first male signature fragrance, Michael Kors for Men, was inspired by the ultimate jet-set man, Extreme Blue is urban, sophisticated, and more polished. “It’s made for the man who has it all. It’s about a heightened lifestyle,” he says. “It’s extreme.”
Composed of a modern blend of fragrance notes, Extreme Blue’s invigorating top notes of bergamot, angelica seed, cardamom, and pink pepper, and undertones of sesame and herb sage create a fresh scent that, hours later, tapers into a clean, woody ambrox and patchouli aroma—sort of like that familiar smell of a fresh shower, only better. Crisp, spicy, smooth, and sensual, all at once, Extreme Blue is succinctly described by Kors as a “hybrid” scent. “‘Hybrid’ is a word that keeps popping up in the fashion and beauty world,” he admits, “because that’s the lifestyle everyone is living today: this hybrid, super-fast life where everyone is doing a billion things, especially people who live in an urban environment. And they need fashion and fragrance that can keep up.”
More sage advice from a man who clearly knows what he’s doing? “Don’t go overboard,” Kors says. “You want to be remembered but not overpowering.” We’ll take his word for it.
