They’ve finally found the exit!

As if their previous experiences weren’t harrowing enough, Thomas (played by Dylan O’brien) and friends are returning to the deadly labyrinth in Maze Runner: The Death Cure. The Gladers will risk their lives again raiding the legendary Last City, an urban jungle controlled by the organization WCKD, to rescue peers.

Wes Ball, who also directed The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, is back at the helm of the culminating sequel, whose screenplay was penned by T.S. Nowlin. Having seen the first two movies and the trailers, FHM makes a few predictions on how The Death Cure will end.

THOMAS LIVES (AT LEAST LOSES AN ARM)

Following O’brien’s injury on set early last year, production was delayed until March 2017. Does this mean the Teen Wolf actor had been doing scenes that are too risky? Ball is known for tweaking the science fiction novel on screen, and fans won’t like it if something awry happens to the protagonist, who “kisses” off into the sunset in print.

THE DEATH CURE WILL FEEL CRAMPED

The film series will be an actual trilogy; The Death Cure will really be final installment, unlike those that came before it from the young adult genre (The Hunger Games, Divergent). As such, Ball packed it with as much as action and drama. It’s also possible that the usual two-hour running time will be extended to cover much storyline ground.

MAZE RUNNER 3 WON’T END LIKE THE BOOK

Ball, in an interview with Collider, confirmed that this third chapter will have a major time jump from The Scorch Trials. He may have had to omit some parts of the story, which will spell the difference between the movie and paperback versions. We just hope that these drastic changes don’t turn into plot holes when all’s said and done. Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which also stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-sangste, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Patricia Clarkson, among others, hits theaters early next year
