Taking five minutes could save your life
Even a super-easy mini meditation can have extraordinary benefits. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania in the U.S. asked a group of job seekers to try mindfulness— simply focusing on sights, sounds, or sensations, like water on your skin in the shower—and, after they had a little practice, the parts of their brains that boost focus were communicating better. Months later, the same folks had fewer inflammatory markers in their blood, lowering their risk for stress-fueled illnesses like heart disease and diabetes. In other words, start taking a mindful pause today and you may have a lot more days in your future.
